India drops to fourth in ICC Test rankings
Dubai: India has dropped down one place to fourth in the ICC Test Championships table after the annual update released today, which reflects the performance of only the last three years with the older results being discarded.
Sri Lanka, riding on its Test series win over Pakistan, leveled India (119) on points but replaced Mahendra Singh Dhoni`s team at number three after re-calculation upto the nearest decimal -- 0.01 ratings points difference.
Australia (124) clung on to the top above second-placed South Africa (122) as just five ratings points separate top four teams.
But Ricky Ponting`s men must win both the remaining Ashes Tests to stay there. Otherwise, it will be Graeme Smith`s turn to lead the number-one Test team in the world.s
Sydney, July 30 (ANI): Neither the pitch nor the weather are likely to smile upon Australia and England during the third Ashes Test being played at Edgbaston, Warwickshire from Thursday.
Steve Rouse, the curator at Edgbaston, believes that a draw is the likeliest outcome because of the endless rain.
According to cricket columnist Peter Roebuck, the current Ashes series has been notable more for its fourth-innings dramas than the quality of the cricket.
"The cricket has been mostly subdued. England played poorly in Cardiff and survived. Australia played abysmally for 31/2 days at Lord's and perished. Only spasmodically have both sides impressed," he says in his article for the Sydney Morning Herald.
The Indians and South Africans will not be losing any sleep. |
